Representation of the room temperature with Cacti

With the sensorProbe2 or sensorProbe8 measured sensor values such as temperature and humidity history can be represented graphically by Cacti. Evaluate the temperature fluctuations in the server room the last hours, days, weeks or months off. The team of Didactum is happy to help in the integration of sensor and sample securityProbe5E monitoring hardware in Cacti.

Installation and setup of the temperature measurement using Cacti

Cacti is a graphing software package that allows you to print graphs of data collected by
your sensorProbe or securityProbe.

In this document we will have a step my step example of how to set up the software for
graphing your data.

You can download the latest version of Cacti from: http://www.cacti.net

Example: In this example we are going to monitor the SP2 ( IP: 10.1.1.5) that has a temperature sensor at port 1

You will now see the default page of Cacti. From this page click on the tab named "graphs".

You will now be viewing a page that looks like the one below. Here you can see some graphs of data that has been captured by your unit. We are going to make a graph for the SP2 temperature sensor. This is connected to port 1 in our example.

Then click on the tab indicated below.

You will now be viewing a page that looks like the one below. Here you can see some graphs of data that has been captured by your unit. We are going to make a graph for the SP2 temperature sensor. This is connected to port 1 in our example.

Now we need to tell Cacti how to get the data from the SP2. We do this by making a data template. Click on data templates in the menu.

Click the "consol" tab situated at the top-left.

Now we need to tell Cacti how to get the data from the SP2. We do this by making a data template. Click on data templates in the menu.

This will load a new page which should look something like the one below. Now click on the "add" button as indicated in the picture.

On this page you can fill in the fields indicated in the picture below. These will commonly be the name of the sensor being graphed, what the data is that is being graphed etc. Once you have customized this click on the "create" button.

On this page you can fill in the fields indicated in the picture below. These will commonly be the name of the sensor being graphed, what the data is that is being graphed etc. Once you have customized this click on the "create" button.

If this is completed correctly you will see the message "save successful".

Now you will see another "Save Successful" message. Your template, SP2 ? Tempsensor, will be shown in the list at the bottom.

At the bottom of this page, type in the OID of sensor and click the "save" button.

Now you will see another "Save Successful" message. Your template, SP2 - Tempsensor, will be shown in the list at the bottom.

Click on "Graph Templates" from the menu. You will see something like this. Now click the "Add" option, indicated below. Fill in the data in the fields indicated below and click the "create" button.

Next we need to tell Cacti what is the graph that you want.

Click on "Graph Templates" from the menu. You will see something like this. Now click the "Add" option, indicated below. Fill in the data in the fields indicated below and click the "create" button.

Fill in the data fields you require as indicated below and click the "create" button.

You will see a "Save Successful" message. Then click "add".

Fill in the data fields you require as indicated below and click the "create" button.

Another save successful message is displayed. click on "Add".

Fill the data shown in the picture below and click "create".

You will see something like this. Click the "save" button.

You now have completed the graphing template. The next step is to tell Cacti where your SP2 unit is and make the graph.Click on "Devices" from the menu.

Click on the "Add" button. Fill the data required as shown below and click "create".

Now, you can see some SNMP information. Select "SP2 - Temperature" and click "add".

Click on "Create Graphs for this Host".

Click on the "SP2 - Temperature" check box and then click "create".

Now click on the "graphs" tab.

You will then see a page that looks like the one shown.

Cacti plots graph data every 5 minutes. Therefore you will need to wait at least 10 minutes to view the graph. You will then see something that looks like the picture below.
